Speaking on Redmen TV, Neil Jones has been discussing Liverpool’s ongoing injury issues and what he’s hearing from within the club about Jurgen Klopp’s training.
The Reds have suffered so many injuries over the past few years, some have been unavoidable, but it does have to be said that there are an unusual amount of muscle injuries occurring within this squad.
Jones says that there are some concerns within Liverpool about the training being too intense, with some even claiming that the Merseyside club feel as though they’re better-off when they have three games in a week as the training has to be toned down a little bit allowing the players to have more rest.

Better with less training
Jones shared what he’s heard from within Liverpool.
“You can’t legislate for Jordan Pickford smashing into someone’s knee, but you can definitely link muscle injuries to the workload and the intensity and training and the difficulty. I’ve spoken to people actually at Liverpool who have said, counter-intuitively, that they feel Liverpool are better when there are three games in a week because it creates those natural rest days and you have to tailor your training and take pressure of what is expected day-to-day,” Jones said.
Double-edged sword
After hearing these comments, it would seem that there is a case to make for completely toning down the training at Liverpool.
Indeed, the intensity seems to be causing injuries within the squad, and there is clearly a feeling that the team are better when they don’t have to do as much.
However, that’s such a double-edged sword.
Intensity is what makes Liverpool one of the best teams in the world, and if they weren’t training so hard, they wouldn’t be able to play the way they do on the pitch.
There’s surely a happy medium to be found here, and the sooner Jurgen Klopp figures that out the better.
