Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to mock Liverpool’s involvement in the European Super League after Sadio Mané opened the scoring against Leeds.
The Senegal international put Liverpool 1-0 up against Marcelo Bielsa’s men in the 31st minute at Elland Road, following a seven-game goal drought.
After that moment, Lineker questioned the significance of the goal.

Lineker is making a very valid point.
Is there actually any reason for Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea to play their Premier League games this season?
The European Super League is set to start in August, with many clubs already signed up and raring to go, including the aforementioned six.
As a result, is there any point in these clubs playing out their games?
As Lineker states, it doesn’t even matter if Liverpool organically reach the top four now.
They’re already part of this elitist movement, in which they wouldn’t be allowed to partake in the Champions League next term as a result.
It just feels like these six teams will now be playing a number of friendlies, before jetting off from these shores, never to play the likes of Burnley, Southampton and Leeds again.
It really is a desperately sad time for football – this cannot go ahead.
