Paul Merson has backed Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to win the Golden Boot ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
The former Arsenal player thinks the Tottenham striker will become the top-scorer for the 2023/24 Premier League season ahead of Manchester City’s Treble-winning star, Erling Haaland, as well as Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, who ‘didn’t get close’ to their London rival last season.
Even though Spurs produced an abject campaign, Harry Kane still managed to hit 30 goals – six behind Haaland, but double the amount of Saka and Martinelli.
Whilst Merson is backing the England captain to, this time, overcome the might of Norway’s next superstar, he isn’t backing him to do it in Spurs colours, as he told Sportskeeda.
Despite all of this talk of Bayern Munich, Merson seemingly thinks there is a chance Erik ten Hag’s side could sign the 30-year-old.
And, as a result, he is backing Kane to win the Golden Boot, which of course, he has won in Spurs colours before, and in truth, he could still do it again if he stays on board this summer.

“I’m going to go with Harry Kane for the Premier League Golden Boot next season,” said Merson. “Erling Haaland stopped scoring goals towards the end of last season, didn’t he? I’m not sure if teams have snuffed him out.
“Harry Kane’s record has been incredible. He got to 30 goals last season without scoring four goals a game. What he’s done is phenomenal in my opinion and if he does go to Manchester United, then I don’t see how he doesn’t win the Golden Boot.
“The big advantage that the likes of Haaland, Kane, and Mohamed Salah have is that they know they’re going to be playing every game – Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli couldn’t have played any better than they did last season, and they didn’t get close to Kane and Haaland. You’ve got a lot of forwards getting to 15 goals in the Premier League, but that’s not going to win you the Golden Boot.
“You’ve got to play almost every game in the Premier League to win the Golden Boot, and Harry Kane will probably have that opportunity. I’m backing him to outscore his rivals in the Premier League next season.”

Is it the end of the road for Kane?
That fresh-faced youngster that was handed a start by Tim Sherwood could have already written his final chapter for Spurs.
Those 30 goals last season, which also included him becoming the club’s all-time top-scorer, could be his lasting legacy.
Bayern Munich are banging the door down like never before and there are suggestions he is close to joining, according to the Daily Mail.
