‘They buy’: Owen Hargreaves thinks ‘old school’ Tottenham target will end up at Chelsea

Owen Hargreaves thinks Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Evan Ferguson will probably end up at Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea after he scored his first Premier League hat-trick for Brighton.

The 18-year-old put his name amongst some of the Premier League greats on Saturday, when he ripped apart a sorry Newcastle United, with Hargreaves adding that Dan Burn was ‘worried’ about the teenager.

But such performances, on such a stage, is only putting Evan Ferguson’s name in transfer lights, with Hargreaves stating that he will probably end up at Chelsea because they ‘buy all the Brighton players’, as he told Premier League Productions (04/09/23 at 2:30 pm).

This summer, Chelsea brought in Moises Caicedo and Robert Sanchez, not forgetting Marc Cucurella last summer, as well as nabbing their manager, at the time, Graham Potter.

It hasn’t exactly resulted in Chelsea progressing, but going backwards, although, it still hasn’t stopped them from spending crazy in the transfer market.

Either way, former England midfielder Hargreaves shared his thoughts on Ferguson after a weekend to remember for the youngster.

“That was against the best defence in the league in Newcastle,” said Hargreaves on Ferguson’s hat-trick. “Dan Burn, who has played at left-back, was playing centre-back and he looked very worried about Ferguson.

“I like that all three goals were different. The first one was an easy one, it was in the spot. The second one was a great goal. He is a bit of an old-school centre-forward. He has that physical profile.

On where Ferguson can go: “Probably Chelsea because they buy all the Brighton players.”

What next for Ferguson?

You would think that the eyes of the footballing world are now on Ferguson, with every top team or aspiring team, wanting to secure his talents.

Tottenham were one of the sides keen on the Republic of Ireland international, with suggestions that Ange Postecoglou is a fan of the player.

The issue facing Spurs is the number of clubs that would now want to sign Ferguson and the price-tag on his head, it surely has to be beyond £100 million+, as Daniel Levy possibly being asked to put such a fee on the table would probably result in him fainting.
