Paul Gilmour has told Sky Sports News (30/06/21 at 8:20 am) that there is ‘the belief’ with those at Tottenham that Nuno Espirito Santo can play ‘attacking’ football.
There is the concern that Nuno, who was appointed Spurs boss on Wednesday, has a defensive style that is too similar to Jose Mourinho.
Even though Mourinho had a trophy-laden career, he was sacked by Spurs over two months ago, with his style of play being a concern and a big talking point amongst fans.
And even though those in the North London boardroom have brought in a coach similar to Mourinho, a Sky journalist shared what those within the club are telling him about Nuno’s style.
“There is the belief within Tottenham, I should say, speaking to some people at Tottenham,” said Gilmour. “They believe his teams can play attacking football.
“You talked to people who followed Wolves throughout his time, they will say he was ‘pragmatic’, which is different from boring or a dull side of play.
“But there have been nights, I remember Wolves beating Arsenal 3-1. I remember 4-0 away at Espanyol.
“There were moments when those teams and Nuno could adapt go on and go for the kill against sides.”

One of the dark clouds, and it will always linger, over Nuno’s appointment, is at how long it took Spurs to bring him in.
Not only that, it’s all about timing because Nuno recently left Wolves after they finished in the bottom half.
If Spurs pushed for the former goalkeeper last season when Wolves secured a European finish then perhaps there would have been a different feeling about his appointment.
But either way, to make his life easier in the Spurs dugout, he needs Harry Kane out on that pitch come next season.
