Paul Merson has shared that he had ‘a little chat’ with Arsenal’s technical director, Edu Gaspar, about the summer transfer window they have had so far, as he told Sky Sports.

The TV pundit added that he told Edu ‘they have bought well’ and they are still ‘trying to get a couple more players in’ this summer.

Gabriel Jesus has been Arsenal’s standout purchase following his transfer from Manchester City, whilst Fabio Vieira has been another big-money transfer.

Who else will follow those players to north London? And which players need to head for the exit door in order to balance the squad out?

Well, time will tell during these coming weeks, as Merson shared that he spoke with Edu over the weekend and how he thinks they have done pretty well in this window.

“They are looking good,” said Merson. “I saw Edu on Sunday and we had a little chat and I think they have bought well.

“They are trying to get a couple more players in. I think they could have a good season, Arsenal. Trying to get into the top-four. Small steps, small steps, but I think top-four would definitely be the aim this season.

“I think they have bought well and they have young players who have another lot of games under their belt. Plus, I don’t think there are too many excuses at Arsenal now.”

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ALL THAT MATTERS

Last summer, Arsenal were the biggest spenders in the Premier League and they could be headed down that road again this summer.

The likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White and Martin Odegaard proved to be top purchases for the club, but the ultimate is securing Champions League football.

They missed that line last season and they can’t afford to miss their mark again, or else the pressure will be, not just on Mikel Arteta, but Edu as well.

At the end of the day, the two have played a big part in the high volume of changes at the club and it has to result in success at some point.
