Tim Sherwood has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are ‘reliant’ on Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son, just like Manchester United are with Cristiano Ronaldo. as he told Premier League Productions.
The former Spurs boss thinks the man in the current dugout, Antonio Conte, is trying to change that, as he dubbed Kane and Son as ‘world-class’ stars.
Over the weekend, Ronaldo netted a hat-trick against the north London club to emphasise that point.
Whilst Ronaldo only returned to Old Trafford this season, Tottenham’s problems without Kane and Son, especially their English striker, stem back to the Mauricio Pochettino days.
Sherwood spoke about Tottenham’s ‘work ethic’ that Conte is trying to bring in and, from their perspective, change the over-reliance on their record-breaking attacking duo.
“Kane and Son, they are reliant on them,” said Sherwood. “Just like Man United are reliant on Ronaldo, Bruno when he wants to turn up and Paul Pogba, the world-class stars.
“It’s all about the team. He is trying to get that work ethic and not having to rely on Harry Kane and Son.
“As much as Conte talks about Ronaldo, you could say the same about Harry Kane. How many times has he got them out of the mire? And Son? Because of poor performances. They paper over the cracks because they are world-class players.”
Dejan Kulusevski is someone who should have the spotlight shone on him straightaway because he is making quite the impact since his January move.
The 21-year-old is already a starter at Tottenham and is making strides in the final third.
Some players may take a while to settle in, but not the Juventus loanee, who is showing the physical qualities, speed and final touch needed to be a threat in England’s top-flight.
It’s just a case of others joining him, but perhaps Conte needs more faces through the door, but will he get that this summer?
