Speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT (talkSPORT Daily Podcast), Sam Allardyce has shared West Brom’s stance on signing new players in the January transfer window.

It’s good news for Baggies fans, as Allardyce says the club are prepared to get some players in, but Allardyce has said that he only wants signings if they’re an improvement on what they’ve already got.

Indeed, the new gaffer has said that he will only sign players who will immediately improve his squad, but he’s not been coy about the fact it will be a difficult task due to the ongoing financial strain and uncertainty brought on by the pandemic.

“if we can, can we find a better player than before? And only if it’s a better player would I want to bring him in.

“That’s a difficult task because of covid, because of the understanding of the club and because of where we are at the moment.

“So, they are prepared to, yes, get some players, we need to find where those players are, and who wants to let players go during this pandemic? That is a particular problem. I can’t suggest at this moment in time how many players we need.”

While Allardyce may not know what he wants to do yet, it’s great to hear that the higher-ups at the Hawthorns are prepared to back him in the winter window.

The extent of their backing remains to be seen, but with the Midlands outfit staring relegation in the face, we would suggest that a hefty financial injection is exactly what the doctor ordered.

West Brom fans have already predicted that Cenk Tosun could be on his way in January, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

If Allardyce can build a squad in his image and get them playing the football we’ve become accustomed to seeing an Allardyce side play, the Baggies will have a fantastic chance of staying in the Premier League this season.

We’re just two weeks away from the window opening, so don’t be surprised to see rumours cropping up very soon.
