Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Liverpool are still looking at Sven Botman after links to him in the January transfer window.

The Reds were heavily linked with a move for the 21-year-old in the winter window, but Romano claims that nothing advanced was ever on the table for the Lille star.

However, it seems as though Liverpool fans shouldn’t write off the idea of Botman arriving at some point as Romano claims they’re looking at the player and Lille may need to sell him.

“We mentioned Botman as one of the potential centre-backs of the summer because Lille need to sell players, Botman is an interesting centre-back. They are so happy with him, but they know that top clubs are going for Botman,” Romano said.

“What I want to add about Liverpool is that they were never close to signing Botman in January. We had a lot of rumours on deadline day about a private flight and many things about Botman in other weeks about an agreement reached and negotiations, it’s not true.

“They are looking at the player because he is appreciated, but they never started anything official or advanced with Botman. Keep an eye on the other clubs who are looking for a centre-back, because we know in the summer a lot of centre-backs will move, and keep an eye on Botman because he will be one of the most interesting because he is a good, good player.”

This is certainly very interesting to hear.

Liverpool may need a new centre-half in the summer if Ozan Kabak’s option to buy isn’t triggered, and Botman may be the man they look towards.

The Reds are seemingly big fans of his, with Romano claiming that he is appreciated, so we’ll have to wait and see whether or not they make a formal move for him this time around.
