Speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Dean Jones has been discussing Liverpool’s January transfer plans.
The Reds have gotten off to a great start in this transfer window after securing the signing of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, but after a shaky start to the season, they need more additions.
One glaring hole in this squad is in the midfield, but luckily, Jones says that he’s been told that those issues will be addressed in this January transfer window, adding that two midfielders are actually set to be signed in this calendar year.

Liverpool will sign a midfielder
Jones shared what he knows about the Reds’ plans this month.
“Liverpool have got multiple problems right now. They are going to address the midfield issue in this transfer window I am told. They are on the lookout for something that can work, and we’re expecting two midfielders to be signed in 2023. We’ll see what level of player they end up signing, but Gakpo is the sign of the intent,” Jones said.
Music to everyone’s ears
This is the transfer update Liverpool fans will have been hoping to hear.
The Reds’ midfield has, to put it bluntly, been dreadful this season, and they need some fresh blood in that area.
The exciting thing is that this signing could genuinely come from out of nowhere.
Liverpool signed Gakpo without a whiff of a rumour emerging, and the same situation could unfold here.
Don’t be surprised if Liverpool surprise us all with a midfield signing from out of nowhere at some point this month.
