Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Manchester City expect Riyad Mahrez to remain at the club.
The Algerian has established himself as one of the most important players at the Etihad this term, and while rumours have swirled about his future, it seems as though he’s going to be staying in Manchester for the time being.
“There are a lot of rumours about him leaving the club, there are chances with other clubs, but what I can say is that Man City want to keep Mahrez,” Romano said.
“They are not working to sell him or something like this. Guardiola is so happy with him. He is a key player, so I see a lot of rumours, but City’s plan is to go on with Mahrez. He is part of the team, he is part of the future for next season, so at the moment there is nothing with other clubs. Ok the situation of his contract is not advancing, as reported by people in England, and it is true, but they are convinced that he will stay next summer.”

This is fantastic to hear, not just for City fans, but for any Premier League spectator.
There are few players as exciting as Mahrez in the Premier League, and when he’s at his best he’s nigh on unstoppable.
Luckily, it seems as though we’re going get more chances to watch the winger strut his stuff, and with Pep Guardiola’s side looking unstoppable at the moment, we have to imagine that we may watch him pick up a few more winners’ medals as well.
