Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has explained Lille’s view on the future of Sven Botman after Liverpool were linked with a move for the centre-back.

The 20-year-old is reportedly on Liverpool’s radar according to some outlets, but Romano claims that there are no talks ongoing between the two parties, despite ongoing rumours.

However, the Italian journalist has said that Lille are convinced that he’ll end up in the Premier League sooner or later, but whether or not that is with Liverpool remains to be seen.

“There are a lot of rumours about centre-backs, because they’ve had a lot of injuries with centre-backs,” Romano said.

“A lot of rumours also about Botman, the centre-back, he has been amazing really with Lille in France, they are convinced that the player has a future in the Premier League, but right now there is absolutely nothing with Liverpool, nothing advanced, so we have to wait to understand Liverpool’s strategy.”

This is rather disheartening for any Liverpool fan who wanted to see Botman signed this month.

The centre-back position is one that Liverpool really need to consider bolstering, after all, they played two midfielders there in their loss to Southampton on Monday night, but it seems as though the Anfield outfit aren’t prepared to spend big to solve their problems.

The fact that Lille think Botman will be a Premier League player one day says a lot about his talent, and perhaps Liverpool should get in for him before they’re beaten to the punch by one of their rivals.
