David Ornstein has said that Arsenal’s main aim remains to sign an attacking midfielder next summer, unless a big opportunity does arrive in January.

Speaking to the Ornstein and Chapman podcast, the journalist also provided an update on Arsenal’s interest in Dominik Szoboszlai.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with signing the Red Bull Salzburg playmaker in recent weeks.

However, Ornstein insists the Gunners are actually considering a number of players in the number 10 position.

And even if they do make an offer for Szoboszlai in the near future, it may not be enough to convince him to move to the Emirates Stadium.

“Arsenal’s aim was to sign a number 10, creator, somebody who could also operate on the sides as well in the summer of 2021, unless opportunities arose for something to be done in January,” Ornstein said.

“I do think they are considering him [Szoboszlai], but he is only one of a number of options.

“Arsenal’s reservations [over Szoboszlai] are understandable, and other clubs probably share them too and it would be a really big decision if they are to go for it and even then he’d have to decide to join them too.

“He’s in a really strong position and I look forward to seeing what happens.”

If Arsenal do manage to get hold of Szoboszlai it could be a major boost to Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal have looked far too defensive at times this season, with their midfield lacking creative solutions to unlock defences.

The Gunners surely need to bring in a creator sooner rather than later if they are to improve, but whether Szoboszlai will pick a move to the Emirates Stadium, with interest building in him, remains to be seen.
