Patrice Evra claimed that ‘Liverpool are back’ after they beat West Ham United 1-0 on Wednesday night, as the Manchester United legend told Amazon Prime Sport (19/10/22 at 11:20 pm).
The former left-back was doing punditry work at Old Trafford, with Man United beating Spurs 2-0, before talk turned to the game at Anfield and the Liverpool result.
Evra shared how Jurgen Klopp was previously correct to be ‘very harsh’ on his players, but their recent wins against Manchester City and West Ham have now changed the tide.
Only last week, Klopp was pointing out that his team aren’t in a title race because of their quite poor start to the season – they were sitting in the bottom half of the table.
But in this unforgiving and ruthless league, a few wins can change the tide and it’s been the case for the Reds.
Taking his Man United hat off, Evra spoke honestly about Liverpool’s current situation, after those back-to-back wins, and how the Merseyside club are ‘still here’.
“But a massive win (against West Ham),” said Evra. “It wouldn’t count, the victory after the Man City game, if they didn’t win tonight, so they are still here.
“I say before the game. If they lost against Man City, then they can say goodbye to the Premier League title. But because of that game, they are going to have the hope because, even Klopp was really harsh on them and they deserve all the criticism.
“Last year, they showed so much great football and so now I feel like Liverpool are back. They win and that’s the most important. Nunez scored and everything is going to be okay for Liverpool now.”
NUNEZ ANSWERING CRITICS
It was Darwin Nunez who scored the winning goal for Liverpool against West Ham and it was another answer to the critics from the summer signing.
He has been under some stick since moving to the club, but just like Mo Salah on Sunday against Manchester City, he proved to be the difference-maker last night.
It’s Nottingham Forest up next for the Reds and another great chance to put three points on the board against a team sitting bottom of the table.
