Things have not been going well for three players linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers moves this summer.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ frantic search for a new striker was no secret.

The well-backed Midlanders scoured both the domestic and European markets in the final few days of the summer transfer window, but to no avail.

And while Jurgen Locadia – the scorer of four of PSV Eindhoven’s seven goals against FC Utrecht at the weekend – appears to have gotten over his missed chance of a move to Wolves, a trio of players closer to home may be wondering what might have been.

Between them, Watford’s Stefano Okaka, Derby’s Chris Martin and Sheffield Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes have started a grand total of zero league games since the close of the transfer window, with Rhodes the only one to have contributed to a single goal in that time – an assist in the Owls’ 2-1 win against Brentford earlier this month. Okaka even played for the Hornets’ Under-23s this week.

In the meantime, Wolves have been forced to rely heavily upon Leo Bonatini, and it’s almost certain there’ll come a time when the Brazilian isn’t an option.

That’s when it could really hit home for Okaka, Martin and Rhodes.
