Jurgen Klopp has reacted to some promising footage of Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk on Twitter.
Earlier this week, the Dutchman uploaded a photo of himself on an exercise bike.
Van Dijk has been ruled out of the rest of the season after picking up a long-term knee injury in Liverpool’s draw with Everton back in October.
And although Klopp has admitted that it was ‘very good’ to see the big man making positive strides, he insisted that there’s still a huge mountain to climb for the Netherlands international.
Klopp said to Liverpool’s website: “Good, very good. I have no problem with talking about Virgil van Dijk. It’s very good but still a long way to go, that’s this kind of injury.
“I’m happy when I see these videos, to be honest, because it just shows that he makes good progress. But it will still take a lot of time, that’s how it is. I would like to say something else but these are the facts, unfortunately.”
The former Southampton powerhouse will obviously miss Monday’s trip to his old club.
Liverpool go to St Mary’s looking to get back to winning ways after two successive draws.
Still, the Reds remain top of the Premier League table and given that they also have Joe Gomez sidelined for the foreseeable future, Klopp’s side have done remarkably well.
Remember, these two were ever-present figures in bringing a first-ever Premier League title to Anfield last term, so the fact that Liverpool are coping without them is testament to the German and his squad.
