Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a new manager is back on after a deal for ex-Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte collapsed; what about Christophe Galtier?
A deal for Conte appeared to be moving closer, but that move seemingly won’t be happening now.
Daniel Levy needs to go back to the drawing board, and Lille boss Galtier looks like one of the most appealing alternatives.
Tottenham approached Galtier last month
According to a report from Tuttomercatoweb in May, Tottenham did make an approach towards Galtier as they pursued a new manager.
Galtier just stunned Mauricio Pochettino and Paris Saint-Germain by guiding Lille to the Ligue 1 title against all odds.
Is Galtier a big name? Not particularly. He isn’t the kind of huge appointment that could tempt Harry Kane into staying like Conte may have done.
He’s looking to leave Lille though, and just won a league title despite their rivals having a bigger budget – exactly the kind of profile Spurs need, suiting them better than Conte, who immediately wanted big signings.

What about Nice?
Nice have been leading the race for Galtier for some time now, but have yet to actually strike a deal.
Le Parisien claim that the deal is being held up because Lille are demanding €5million (£4.3million) for Galtier – a fee Tottenham could surely pay.
That means there is still time for Levy to swoop in and hijack Nice’s move, and Spurs would likely meet little resistance.
What’s Galtier’s style of play?
Galtier predominantly played a 4-4-2 system last season, with Jonathan David and Burak Yilmaz thriving in attack together.
He pushed his left back, Reinildo, high up the pitch – which would be ideal for Sergio Reguilon and his attacking instincts.
One striker would often drop into the hole, which Harry Kane has done brilliantly at Tottenham, whilst Jonathan Bamba would often drift in from the left flank to aggressively support the attack. You can certainly imagine Son Heung-min in that role.
Galtier’s defence was outstanding, conceding just 23 goals in 38 games. Tottenham do need a manager who can come in and solidify the back line; Galtier could do that.
Lille weren’t necessarily exciting going forward, but Galtier has shown progressive pressing ideas, and his work turning Lille into a title winner has to be appealing to Levy.
