West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that Fabian Balbuena’s red card had been overturned.

The 14-cap Paraguay international was dismissed in bizarre fashion against Chelsea on Saturday, after an incident involving Ben Chilwell.

Balbuena went to clear the ball, and his foot caught the left-back’s calf as he naturally went to place his boot back on the ground.

It was arguably the worst decision we’ve seen since VAR came in – we simply couldn’t believe it when Chris Kavanagh pulled out his red card.

Unbelievably, this has now happened twice to West Ham this season.

West Ham also managed to get Tomáš Souček’s red card overturned after Mike Dean dismissed him for accidentally elbowing Aleksandr Mitrovic against Fulham.

In an age where the officials can watch an incident over and over again, there shouldn’t be any red cards rescinded, let alone two for the same club.

In our view, Kavanagh should now be suspended.

He watched the incident over and over again, and still got it woefully wrong – that simply isn’t good enough.

These referees are trained to spot incidents and make decisions after only seeing what happened once, so there’s no excuse for getting it wrong after numerous watches.

Yes, it’s good news that Balbuena won’t have to serve a suspension.

However, West Ham won’t get that final ten minutes of their 1-0 loss to Chelsea back, and that’s what matters here.

Let’s see what the West Ham fans on Twitter have been saying about the club’s announcement
