Josh Dasilva will have been hoping to dump Tottenham Hotspur of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night – but the Carabao Cup semi-final became a nightmare for him.
Released by Arsenal in 2018, Dasilva would have loved to claim a win in North London, with Brentford challenging for a spot in the Carabao Cup final.
The Bees ended up losing 2-0, as Moussa Sissoko and Son Heung-min fired Tottenham into the final against either Manchester City or Manchester United.
It could have been so different for Brentford had Ivan Toney’s equalising goal stood, but it was disallowed by VAR, with Spurs then taking full advantage.
Brentford’s hopes of a comeback were ended when Dasilva was given a straight red card for a foul on Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Hojbejrg was left with a huge gash on his shin, and hobbled down the tunnel bloodied from the challenge which saw Dasilva given his marching orders.

Gary Lineker took to Twitter to react to the challenge, suggesting that Dasilva certainly didn’t mean the challenge, and that the replay made the tackle look worse.
Hojbjerg may not agree with that as he nurses his injury, and Jose Mourinho certainly won’t having seen one of his key men go down with a nasty injury.
