West Ham United started with Javier Hernandez out wide against West Bromwich Albion.
Hernandez failed to impact on the game much at the Hawthorns, as he was stationed on the left-hand side of West Ham’s attack.
Bilic has faced criticism from Hammers supporters over his usage of the clinical Mexican forward.
However, Bilic has defended himself for positioning Hernandez in a wide berth.
He said: “Hernandez was not wide-wide, we are playing with three or five at the back so he is more off the striker. Of course in defensive work they were coming deep, which is why I am praising them.”
Unfortunately for Bilic, West Ham fans do not seem to have accepted his explanation – and still want to see Hernandez played straight down the middle.
Hernandez’s greatest strength lies in his finishing ability, and he did struggle to get involved at the Hawthorns.
West Ham could only draw 0-0 with West Brom, in a game where very few chances were made.

The Hammers’ best chance of scoring came through Pedro Obiang’s long range effort, but his shot hit the crossbar and rebounded away to safety.
West Ham are still under pressure to improve, after a disappointing start to their campaign.
Bilic’s side are currently in 17th place in the Premier League table, with their next match coming against Bolton Wanderers in the third round of the League Cup.
