Speaking on the Sky Sports Football Podcast, Jamie Carragher has been previewing Manchester City vs Liverpool on Sunday.
The pundit believes that this will be a very closely contested battle between two great teams, but he claims that City have the edge over Liverpool in one vital area – the midfield.
Indeed, while Carragher claims that Liverpool are better than City in every other position, he thinks that the midfield battle is where Sunday’s crunch game could be won or lost.
What’s been said?
Carragher spoke about the midfield battle.
“I think in the midfield, there’s no doubt Man City have the edge in terms of quality in the centre of the pitch. In every other area Liverpool have the edge really, but we talk about the midfield in big games and how vital that area is, and there’s no doubt that City dominated that position at Anfield,” Carragher said.

Big factor
The midfield will be a massive factor this weekend, and unfortunately, it’s incredibly tough to counter-act this City team and their talent in the centre of the park.
Yes, the Cityzens generally only line up with three midfielders, but with Joao Cancelo often tucking inside, Jack Grealish dropping deep and Phil Foden playing almost a free role these days, City can have as many as six players in what you could describe as midfield roles on the pitch, and they’re all quality.
If City manage to get a stranglehold on the game and control the midfield, then Liverpool could struggle at the weekend.
Jurgen Klopp will certainly have considered this in his thinking, but whether or not he can counter-act City’s midfield brilliance remains to be seen.
