Pundit Michael Bridges has said that he doubts whether Newcastle United will even try to sign James Ward-Prowse in the summer.
Bridges made this point on the GegenPod, as it was reported by 90 Min in April that Southampton were only willing to sell him for £50 million.
However, pundit Michael Bridges now believes that Newcastle United will simply decide not to make a move to bring in James Ward-Prowse.
Pundit Michael Bridges said he doubts Newcastle will try to sign James Ward-Prowse
Branded as an ‘elite’ free-kick taker by BBC Sport, the England international is likely to leave the Saints, after they succumbed to relegation this season.
With Eddie Howe’s side having qualified for the Champions League, they will likely spend big to ensure their side is ready to meet the expectations of an extra competition.
Pundit Michael Bridges believes that Newcastle will look to bring in reinforcements but at this point, they are simply too good to sign James Ward-Prowse.

“As someone who makes the signings it’s so much easier to go to a player and say ‘will you come here and play Champions League football.’ I was looking at when they played Southampton a few weeks ago and I thought Ward-Prowse was on the radar for Newcastle and he would be an easy target.”
Pundit Michael Bridges named an alternative to James Ward-Prowse Newcastle could sign, saying, “He’s off the shopping list now, there’s no chance, they’re looking at [Marcelo] Brozovic, they’re looking at people like Juventus players, there are players available that want to come and play. The list has gone through the roof.”
Newcastle should look to bring in better players than the Englishman
While James Ward-Prowse has had a successful career in the Premier League over the years, pundit Michael Bridges is right in saying that Newcastle could do a lot better than signing him.
With how quickly their project has started to boom and the finances the club have at their disposal, Eddie Howe’s men could attract more established players or even younger talents with higher ceilings.
If the Magpies aspire to become the next Manchester City, their recruitment must match such elite standards as well to separate themselves from the rest.
