Peter Crouch has told BT Sport’s coverage of Tottenham beating Marseille that there is more to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg‘s game than being a “destroyer”. Hojbjerg got the winning goal that sent Spurs through as Group D winners last night.
The 27-year-old found spurt of energy from nowhere to glide past the beleaguered Marseille midfield, before blasting an effort into Pau Lopez’s top corner. A 2-1 win, after Spurs had soaked up enormous pressure from the Ligue 1 side.
The win sees Spurs go through and will face a second-placed side in the next round. Meanwhile, Marseille’s pursuit of a winner – leaving them open at the back – has seen them finish bottom. Had it been 1-1, Marseille would have got third.
It would have seen Igor Tudor’s side go into the Europa League. But they will now go without Europa League football after Christmas. Crouch gave his verdict on Danish midfielder Hojbjerg in his post-match analysis on BT Sport.
“I want to touch on Hojbjerg. People think he’s a destroyer but he’s got far more to his game than that. He’s so creative, his forward passes, his impact in the final third,” Crouch said, following Tottenham’s win on BT Sport.

Crouch: More to Hojbjerg’s game than being Tottenham destroyer
Crouch is right and it is easy to prove why, simply looking at the numbers. This season, the Denmark midfielder has had a hand in eight goals – scoring four times, and laying on four assists in 18 appearances. He has been sensational.
Antonio Conte is renowned for getting the best out of his players and Hojbjerg is no exception. Since the Italian has come in, most players have improved but Hojbjerg has gone from a top-six midfielder – to one of the world’s best.
Little surprise that Real Madrid are showing interest in the £58million-rated star, as per BT. If Spurs are to going to do anything this season, keeping Hojbjerg fit and firing is crucial. He will be at the World Cup with Denmark.
