Kevin Campbell believes that Raheem Sterling to Arsenal is a genuine possibility.
Arsenal have been linked to the Manchester City winger quite a lot over the past year or so.
The fact that Mikel Arteta is the Gunners’ head coach is significant, having worked alongside Sterling under Pep Guardiola at City.
Calciomercato reported in October that the North Londoners remain keen on bringing the £300,000-a-week attacker to the Emirates Stadium.
And with Sterling a periphery figure under Guardiola these days, former Arsenal hitman Campbell reckons there is genuine ‘mileage’ to this transfer story.
He said to The Highbury Squad on YouTube: “I think there’s mileage in it. He [Arteta] really influenced him. Nobody can argue that his output and return as a wide player. And he scored over 20 goals as a wide man, that’s huge. If someone like him becomes available we have to be involved. We have to.”
Will Arsenal sign Sterling?
Well, the Arteta factor is, as mentioned, definitely a big thing.
There’s a lot of Manchester City players with good relationships with the Spanish coach and that cannot be ignored.
Neither can you ignore the fact that Arsenal look like they’re going places under Arteta and you can see why North London is appealing to some stars again these days.
In addition to all of that, Pep seems to have exhausted his use for him.
This season, Sterling has started only three Premier League games after losing his place to Jack Grealish.
A January exit is looking very probable and it really isn’t that unlikely that he could join Arsenal, no.
Whether the Emirates Stadium club can afford his wages, however, is another thing entirely.
