Tony Adams told Premier League Productions that Arsenal didn’t need to sign trio Martin Odegaard, Willian and Nicolas Pepe.
All three players, who are of an attack-minded nature, were purchased at different times by those in the Arsenal boardroom.
Odegaard arrived last month on-loan from Real Madrid, Willian switched Stamford Bridge for the Emirates in the summer, whilst Pepe was an Unai Emery capture.
But Highbury legend Adams thinks Arsenal’s ‘weak link’ is their defence, as he suggested that Edu has been making mistakes in who he has been targetting in the market.
“There’s an argument that you don’t need Odegaard because of the kid (Smith Rowe) and Saka,” said Adams.
“I got so annoyed that we brought Pepe in and Willian in when you have two kids like that who are bursting to get into the team. You don’t need (them).
“There are other areas of the team (that need addressing). There are holes in that team. We saw defensively how fragile we are.
“The Arsenal defence has always been the weak link, for me. If I was the Sporting Director of Arsenal, then you wouldn’t be getting Odegaard in. You would be getting good, strong defenders. Maybe left-back. Maybe right-back into this team.”

If Arsenal fans had it their own way, they would more than happily part ways with Willian because his signing simply hasn’t worked out.
As for Pepe, 25, Adams is maybe a little harsh on the big-money Unai Emery signing simply because he has seven goals this season in all competitions and has been producing some of his best performances in recent weeks.
Added with that, Odegaard was a signing welcomed with open arms from the supporters because of the creativity those in North London were craving.
