Speaking on The View from The Lane Podcast, James Maw has given his verdict on the rumours linking Antonio Conte to Juventus.
The Italian is never far away from being linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur, and according to some, he’s now a contender for the Juventus job as the pressure mounts on Massimiliano Allegri.
Conte, of course, managed Juventus in the past, so there may be some gravitas to these rumours, but according to Maw, there isn’t too much to worry about on this front due to the frayed relationship between Conte and Juventus after his first spell at the club.
What’s been said?
Maw shared what he knows about Conte and Juventus.
“What I would say is that there’s a difference between Conte being interested in the job and the top brass at Juventus wanting Conte back because I don’t think the relationships there were entirely cordial at the point he left. There would be some rough edges to smooth over if that were the case,” Maw said.
“I don’t think we should be spiralling into depression on that one just yet on that one again, we did it so many times last season and it became a bit boring.”
Won’t be leaving
Juventus can look at Conte as much as they want, the reality is that he surely won’t be leaving Tottenham.
Yes, a return to Turin for a bona fide Juve legend would be alluring, but even a manager as unpredictable as Conte surely wouldn’t leave Spurs at this point.
He’s just been backed to the hilt in the transfer market, his team are undefeated in the league and his tactics are working a charm once again.
Conte is building an exciting project at Spurs, and he would be a fool to ditch the north London club at this juncture.
