Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told the club’s official website that he is hopeful that Joel Matip will be available for the Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur this week.
Matip started for Liverpool in their Premier League match against Fulham away from home at Craven Cottage in London on Sunday evening.
The Cameroonian defender was taken off at half time, and Klopp has said that the 29-year-old suffered a back spasm.
Liverpool will take on Tottenham at Anfield in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.
Klopp told Liverpool’s official website: “Joel Matip has a spasm in his back. We will see. In the moment, nothing else.
“He got already treatment, will get treatment and we will see. I think there’s a chance for Wednesday. [It’s not that bad] in the moment, no.”
Positive for Liverpool fans
Matip is a senior centre-back in the Liverpool team, and his importance cannot be understated given the long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
Tottenham are a good team who are challenging for the Premier League title, and if Matip is available for the game in midweek, then it will certainly enhance the defending English champions’ chances of winning it.
Liverpool have a lot of injuries at the moment, and it is a testament to the strength of the team and Klopp’s faith in youngsters that they are still going strong.
