Jesse Marsch has responded to a question in Friday’s press conference by saying “there will be movement” when asked about Leeds United signing Wilfried Gnonto – saying Leeds are well aware of the Zurich and Italy attacker.
Gnonto, 18, has impressed since swapping Inter Milan’s reserves for Zurich. He has since clocked up 69 games for Zurich, having a hand in 21 goals. Leeds are said to have made contact with Zurich over a possible move.
Indeed, Gnonto’s form in Switzerland has already attracted the attention of Italy manager Roberto Mancini. He was a surprise inclusion in the post-season Nations League matches, scoring against Germany in a loss.
Amid the reports that Leeds – as well as West Ham – are interested in £8.5m Gnonto, Marsch responded to the reports. He says Leeds are more than aware of him, and that the club will be active when it comes to a striker.
“We know him. We think very highly of him, he’s a young talented player. We’re very active in pursuing things and we have some strategies. We still have time. There will be movement,” Marsch said, as per the club’s YouTube.

Leeds do need another addition in attack. Patrick Bamford was withdrawn in the first half-four against Southampton as a precaution. Joe Gelhardt was completely missing from the squad, though he will return.
Marsch said in his press conference that a decision is yet to be made on Bamford, while Gelhardt is ready to go. However, the long-term injury issues regarding Bamford, means Leeds are looking at a possible striker signing.
Gnonto is the latest name to be linked. For Marsch to comment on Gnonto publicly shows Leeds do have a strong interest in him. Whether the Whites make a move for him in the next two weeks remains to be seen.
