Kylian Mbappe, Memphis Depay and Georges-Kévin Nkoudou were just some current players reacting to Tanguy Ndombele’s Instagram post on his return to action for Tottenham Hotspur.
On Thursday night, Ndombele, who could have left Spurs this summer, played his first minutes of the campaign against Rennes in the Europa Conference League, and to his relief, he posted on Instagram, ‘Happy to be back in the starting XI..since April.”
PSG superstar Mbappe, who is now managed by a certain Mauricio Pochettino, sent the Spurs player a message by saying: “I could have bet that there were going to be compilations, you like it too much.”
Memphis Depay simply added with a two word-message: “Let’s go.” Whilst Nkoudou said: “Leonardo da Vinci with a brush.”
Well, Spurs fans will be hoping Ndombele is handed minutes ahead of Tottenham’s home clash against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
Ndombele’s technical talents, free style, unorthodox manner and ball-carrying ability is going to be needed against Thomas Tuchel’s side.
But will Nuno Espirito Santo trust throwing Tottenham’s club-record signing into such a big game?
Given that question is being asked two seasons after the Frenchman signed is a worry, but he has hardly played under Nuno to either prove him right or wrong this season.
Oliver Skipp and Pierre Emile Hojbjerg will remain in those deeper roles for Spurs because they have had a brilliant start to the campaign.
But perhaps throwing Ndombele into that mix, pushing him further forward and adding that flair is needed.
Dele Alli isn’t really wowing his supporters with his performance, so there is that one spot potentially up for grabs.
Many will be questioning where that Alli of old that scored that brace against Chelsea many years ago has gone? Perhaps he comes to life today if given the nod?
