Dinamo Kiev missed out on a move for Glen Kamara last year after Scottish Premiership champions Rangers demanded around £6 million for the Finland international, according to Ukrainian channel TaToTake.
There are bargains, and then there is Glen Kamara.
Taking full advantage as his Dundee contract wound down, Rangers snapped up the former Arsenal youngster for just £50,000 in January 2019.
According to reports, that very same player would cost £10 million these days.
For those without a calculator handy, let us crunch the numbers.
That is a 200 per cent mark up on a player who, when the time comes to bid farewell to life at Ibrox, will make Rangers the kind of profit that would put a smile on even Mr Burns’ wizened old face.
Where will Glen Kamara go after leaving Rangers?
Dinamo Kiev, 16-time champions of the Ukrainian Premier League, decided to ‘shoot their shot’ in the summer of 2021. They were, however, put off by Rangers’ demands.
“There is a story with Glen Kamara,” explains Mikhail Spivakovsky, the host of TaToTake.
“There was a substantial interest in this player. But the amount that the Scots wanted – 6 to 7 million euros – did not fit into the understanding of the Dynamo bosses, of how much could be offered for this player.
“Then he played at the European Championships and the price-tag naturally increased.”
A cultured, versatile central midfielder with more strings to his bow than a Glen Campbell guitar, Kamara is proving to be as essential to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s gameplan as he was to Steven Gerrard’s, handed more freedom to push on and join the attack under the former Feyenoord coach.
How long will Kamara stay at Rangers?

In addition to Dinamo Kiev, another Eastern European outfit – Spartak Moscow – made a move of their own some 18 months ago.
Kamara, it seems, was open to the idea of swapping Glasgow for the Russian capital too.
“The footballer was ready to move,” claims Zarema Salikhova, the wife of Spartak’s owner.
“In the course of negotiations, the price was brought down to five million. His family live in Finland. He really wanted to play closer to home.
“I think he would he have strengthened Spartak.”
