There must be a big question about Tottenham signing Jamaal Lascelles

Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles is said to be on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar.

According to the Chronicle, Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in signing Jamaal Lascelles from Newcastle United, but there must be question marks over whether he would be a worthwhile addition.

Spurs are reportedly tracking the centre-back, and could swoop if Newcastle’s struggles worsen.

Tottenham want to take Lascelles on the cheap, but it is up for debate whether he would be a good fit in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

There is no doubting Lascelles’ ability as a centre-back. The former Nottingham Forest man is powerful in the air, and strong in the tackle.

However, Lascelles would have to improve considerably on the ball if he was to move to Spurs.

At Newcastle Lascelles isn’t tasked with starting attacks, with his priorities in possession generally to take few risks.

But at Spurs Lascelles would have to show far more willingness to take the ball under pressure.

And that may mean that Tottenham would be better off looking at other targets, rather than the Newcastle centre-back.
