Back in June 2021, Daniel Levy decided to bring Fabio Paratici to Tottenham as Sporting Director, following an impressive stint at Juventus.
The Italian has been working alongside Steve Hitchen up until last week, when the 45-year-old resigned due to a lack of influence.
Now, after a report from the Daily Mail, we think we know why Levy hired the 49-year-old.
Fabio Paratici loves a bargain
During his time at Juventus, Paratici made a number of eye-catching free transfers.
The Italian signed the likes of Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba, Dani Alves, Aaron Ramsey, Emre Can and Sami Khedira, all on free transfers.
Now, the Daily Mail believe Spurs are targeting players who are on dwindling contracts, so basically, soon-to-be free agents.
If true, this should worry Tottenham fans

If Levy’s rumoured new approach is true, it should concern Tottenham supporters.
The 60-year-old is already quite unpopular in N17, and with the exception of a few marquee signings, he doesn’t like to splash the cash.
Therefore, we have a hunch that he mainly hired Paratici for the Italian’s ability to find a bargain, which would allow Levy to spend less money.

After the financial impacts of COVID-19, and huge losses on the likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso, Levy is perhaps keen to tighten the pursestrings.
Now, the only danger is this – what will happen if there aren’t any players good enough for Spurs who are set to become free agents?
Hopefully, the north Londoners don’t spend all of their time shopping in the bargain bucket, although the signs are definitely worrying.
What is good for Levy, is not always for the best for Tottenham.
