Celtic fans have every right to be fuming after watching their side succumb to a 4-2 loss against AC Milan on Thursday evening, but there is one positive to take away from the game, and that concerns Kristoffer Ajer.

The 22-year-old put in a poor performance against the Serie A outfit, shipping four goals and picking up a WhoScored rating of just 6.45.

The centre-half playing poorly will have annoyed many a Celtic supporter, but there is one silver lining to take away from his poor performance.

Indeed, the fact that Ajer has played badly against AC Milan may help the Bhoys keep hold of their star defender for a little longer.

The Norwegian has long been linked with a move away from Celtic Park, and every time rumours of his departure crop up, AC Milan are amongst the strongest linked teams.

However, now that Milan have had a chance to see him in the flesh, they may want to reconsider their interest in him.

Of course, Ajer playing poorly is a rare occurrence at Celtic, after all, he made the PFA Scotland Team of the Year back in 2019, and the fact that a team of Milan’s stature were even interested in him shows just how talented he is.

However, this off-day in front of the Serie A outfit could very easily see the higher-ups at San Siro change their stance on wanting to sign him.

Milan dropping their interest in Ajer would be good news for Celtic, as keeping Ajer at the club will greatly improve their chances of retaining their SPFL title.

Of course, the whole team need to step up if the Bhoys are going to pip Rangers come the end of the season, but there’s no doubting that Celtic are at their best when Ajer is on form.
