Jack Clarke has reportedly decided to fight for a senior spot in Nuno Espirito Santo’s Tottenham Hotspur squad for next season [The Athletic].
Spurs spent £10 million on the 20-year-old winger only two years ago but he is very much a forgotten man in North London.
Since joining, Clarke has managed only 50 minutes of competitive action across all competitions.
He has endured three relatively disappointing loan spells – all in the Championship – and it seems like a big ask for him to compete with the likes of Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn for a place in Nuno’s squad.
There’s no doubt he has a lot of quality and potential, hence why the North Londoners spent £10 million to sign him, but he’s still a bit raw and it could backfire in a big way.
Then again, it shows a lot of courage and here’s how Tottenham fans reacted to the report:
Mistake?
You could argue that Clarke made a mistake leaving Leeds United in the first place.
The Premier League now knows how good of a coach Marcelo Bielsa is and if Tottenham spent eight figures on him on the back of six months under the legendary Argentine coach, how much better could he have become with another year at Elland Road?
Even when he returned to Leeds on loan, it wasn’t the same as staying because Bielsa may not have had the same incentive to develop him, as he would have had Clarke not decided to join Spurs.
