Marcelo Bielsa’s stock as Leeds United boss has never been higher.
The Argentine has just led the Whites to a shock 2-1 win away to would-be Premier League champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Not only that, but Leeds played half the game with 10 men and still wound up humbling Pep Guardiola’s side.
It’s been a brilliant first season back in the Premier League for United, who ended their 16-year exile from the top flight by winning the Championship under Bielsa last season.
That fact alone made the 65-year-old an eternally-adored figure in West Yorkshire, but Leeds’ adaptation since returning to the big time has only enhanced how much fans of the Elland Road club love him.
There has been a little concern over Bielsa’s future after delaying contract talks in February, with his existing deal ending this summer.
But Peter Crouch has told The Daily Mail that there’s just no way he won’t be in charge of Leeds next season.
Crouch said: “I know there have been worries about him with his contract due to expire this summer, but there is no way he will not be in charge at Elland Road next season. He’s been through 12 months with no fans inside the stadium. Why would he leave when there is so much adulation for him?”
There’s been good news on the Bielsa front for Leeds in recent days, after La Nacion reported in Argentina that the former Athletic Bilbao and Marseille coach was in ‘advanced negotiations’ over staying.
