Michael Owen has claimed that Conor Coady going to Everton is a ‘match-made in heaven’ and there is no time to think about his Liverpool past.

The 29-year-old came through the ranks at Liverpool, making one appearance for the club, but he is now donning Everton colours after his loan move from Wolves in the summer.

It was a big call for Coady to return to Merseyside and head towards the blue half because he was dropped to the bench by Bruno Lage at Wolves this season.

At Coady’s age, and especially with the 2022 World Cup around the corner, he couldn’t afford for his minutes to reduce at this stage of his career.

And, so far, it’s proving to be the correct call because Frank Lampard’s side have secured back-to-back clean sheets at home, including beating West Ham last time out.

Owen, who played for Manchester United towards the latter stages of his career, touched upon Coady’s call and thinks it was the correct thing to do, as he told Premier League Productions.

“I think it’s a match made in heaven Conor Coady going to Everton,” said Owen. “Of course, everyone knows he’s a massive Liverpool fan.

“But it shows opportunities, this is your life and this is your career. There is no time for ‘Oh, I supported them as a kid, so I am never going to play for Everton’.

“I felt that in my career. And the opportunity came for Coady, it was a massive chance for him to play for Everton and I think he’s going to be a huge asset to Frank Lampard and his team. “

COADY AIMING FOR WORLD CUP SPOT

As things stand, Coady should earn a much sought-after golden ticket to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

He is part of Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad and might probably earn some minutes against Italy and Germany.

If he opted to remain at Wolves, then Lage would have probably kept him on the bench, which would have resulted in him missing out on England selection.

Coady isn’t a starter for the Three Lions, but with his experience and leadership, he is very valuable off the field, as was highlighted at Euro 2020.
