Former Rangers midfielder Charlie Miller has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he thinks there is much more to come from Gers summer signing Josh Windass.

Windass, 22, starred for Accrington Stanley last season, hammering 17 goals in all competitions to make quite the reputation for himself in the Football League – and in January of this year, he chose to sign a pre-contract agreement with Rangers.

With the playmaker in the final six months of his contract with Accrington, Rangers were able to seal a pre-contract deal for Windass paying nominal compensation, whilst also landing his Stanley team-mate Matt Crooks too.

So far, Windass has been in and out of the Rangers side; after an injury-hit start to the season, Windass has now become an important player for Mark Warburton, and he’s certainly seizing his chance in midfield given that Joey Barton has already left the club and Niko Kranjcar is out for the season.

In fact, Rangers fans were so impressed with Windass’ performance against Dundee last weekend, that they booed manager Mark Warburton for substituting him when the Gers were chasing the opening goal.

Windass is likely to start for Rangers against Partick Thistle today, and former Gers midfielder Charlie Miller has offered his view on the playmaker.

Speaking to the Glasgow Evening Times, Miller suggested that Windass has done well at Rangers so far, and there is even better to come, as he feels that the playmaker has ‘good potential’ to improve.

Miller added that Windass isn’t fazed by the expectation levels at Ibrox, and whilst he’s had some games out through injury, he’s confident that there is much more to come from the former Huddersfield Town youngster.

“In the games he has played so far, I think he has done well to be fair,” said Miller. “He has had a few injuries and that is unfortunate. He has made an impact so far and he is a different threat for Rangers. He gets on the ball and tries to make things happen, he gets forward and he likes a shot. He has done well but I think there is better to come from him. He will have been looking to make an even bigger impact than he has made but he is a good player and there is good potential there.”

“He is not fazed by it and you can’t afford to be coming to play for Rangers. It is a massive club but it can be a very difficult place to play when things aren’t going well. It has been a frustrating spell but some of the games have been good. The Kilmarnock game was good and they are going in the right direction. I think there is more to come from him and he will want to show that this season. He is a young boy and he will want to kick-on. If he can get a run of games then hopefully that will happen for him over the next few weeks,” he added.
