What a horrible year it’s been for Leeds United loanee Jean-Kevin Augustin.
The French hitman joined the Whites on a half-season loan from Leipzig in January but has only managed 48 minutes of Championship football since.
Augustin broke down injured before the season was suspended in March and suffered another setback earlier this month.
But if and when the 23-year-old does return to first-team duties this season, there might be more bad news waiting for him.
That’s because Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa used Tyler Roberts as a striker for the second half of Saturday’s win over Fulham.
The Wales international wasn’t on the scoresheet, but Bielsa is all about the team, not individual players, and United played excellently with Pablo Hernandez operating in behind Roberts as the spearhead.
It seemed unthinkable in January when Augustin arrived at Leeds, but it could well transpire that he finishes the season as Bielsa’s third-choice striker behind Patrick Bamford and Roberts.
Before Saturday, things weren’t looking great for the former Monaco loanee but Roberts’s stint as a striker might make things that bit worse for him.
