It looks like Liverpool’s transfer business on Sunday might have opened the door for Divock Origi to leave Anfield.
Liverpool confirmed their £50 million addition of Luis Diaz from Porto yesterday afternoon.
In doing so, the Reds have bolstered their attacking options and there’s less reliance on the likes of Origi and Takumi Minamino, both of whom have been linked with transfers away.
Origi is forever being linked with a departure from Merseyside, having started nine Premier League outings in two-and-half seasons.
However, it seems probable that he could finally leave Liverpool.
According to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, the Belgium international could be the subject of a transfer twist with regards to an exit.
He brielfy said on Sky: “I’ve just been given a text from a contact of mine, tomorrow there could be a twist with Divock Origi (leaving).”
Twist?
It’s all very confusing and cryptic from the Sky reporter.
But it does very complete sense for Liverpool to offload him.
Diaz is a winger and not a striker, so on the surface it doesn’t appear as if there’s a correlation between the Colombian’s arrival and the latter’s exit.
Significantly, though, Diogo Jota has had massive success playing through the middle and out wide under Jurgen Klopp but, with Diaz now on the books, it seems as if though the Portuguese attacker will be exclusively used as a centre-forward.
Origi was already behind Roberto Firmino and Jota in the German manager’s list of striking options, but Diaz being signed means that the former Lille hitman just isn’t going to get a kick.
