Stephen Warnock has claimed that ‘people are saying’ that Liverpool new boy, Luis Diaz, is showing ‘signs of Luis Suarez’ during the early stages of his Anfield career, as he told the Football Show on Sky Sports.

The former Reds defender added that Diaz has already ‘adhered’ to the Liverpool faithful by getting an assist on debut.

After moving from Porto during the January transfer window, the 25-year-old didn’t hesitate in showcasing what he is all about during his side’s FA Cup win against Cardiff City.

Both the flying winger and Harvey Elliott impressed from the bench against the Championship side and now they will be looking to do the same against Leicester City on Thursday.

There is a lot of noise around Diaz following his move to the club and Warnock lauded the ‘exceptional talent’.

“First and foremost, getting an assist on your debut, adheres you to the crowd straight away,” said Warnock. “They are excited to see what you can do.

“I think, for yourself, it settled you down a little bit. It proves what you are capable of doing. When you come for a price tag and you come in the January transfer window, then people are expectant of what you are going to produce and to produce it straightaway.

“There were people saying, early stages, that there are signs of Suarez. The way he moved. The way he shifted the ball so quickly. The way he closed down.

“Listen, let’s not carried away yet. He was some player. But he is an exceptional talent. He is someone Liverpool players would have been aware of because he caused them problems when playing against them for Porto.”

It could be argued that Suarez is Liverpool’s greatest every modern-day forward, so to try and match his legacy will be a pretty hard task for Diaz.

In truth, the Colombian simply has to look towards someone like Diogo Jota and the impact he has made on Merseyside since his transfer from Wolves.

From an inconsistent wideman in the Midlands, Jota has turned into a lethal penalty-box forward, who eats up everything you feed him inside the area.

Even though Roberto Firmino has been a starter for the Reds for many years, he has now been dislodged by Jota’s performances and Diaz will need to do the same.
