Theo Walcott shares what Wayne Rooney told him before completing Everton deal

Everton snapped up forward Theo Walcott from Arsenal on Wednesday.

Everton new boy Theo Walcott has told the club’s official website that he spoke to Wayne Rooney on numerous occasions before completing his move to Goodison Park.

After bringing in Cenk Tosun from Besiktas earlier this month, Everton boss Sam Allardyce has made it two January signings by snapping up another attacker.

Having failed to register a shot on target in the 4-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon, Allardyce clearly felt that he needed another goal threat in his ranks, and moved to bring in Theo Walcott.

The 28-year-old penned a three-and-a-half-year deal with Everton on Wednesday evening, bringing an end to his 12-year stay with Arsenal having signed from Southampton way back in 2006.

Walcott didn’t even start a Premier League game for Arsenal this season, but leaves having scored over 100 goals for the club in just shy of 400 games, and will now hope for success at Goodison Park.

Walcott’s move reunites him with a host of former England teammates, including Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines, Aaron Lennon and Wayne Rooney, with the latter playing a key role in the deal.

Walcott has told the club’s official website that he spoke to Rooney on numerous occasions before making his move to Everton, noting that Rooney really tempted him into making the move to Merseyside.

The new Everton forward added that he thinks Everton have a great history, and Rooney believes there is real improvement on the horizon under Allardyce.

“I had numerous chats with Wayne and that was one massive factor which really tempted me to come to Everton,” said Walcott. “He told me it was a great place to play football and a club that is on the up. Those are the reasons I came here.”

“This is a club with great history. The fans are brilliant, they are always passionate… and I used to find it very tough playing here You want to be part of something and Wayne feels Everton are really going to improve,” he added.
