Martin Keown told Football Focus that he ‘cannot see’ Tottenham winning the Premier League title this season but he does believe they will have a ‘large say on who does win it’.

The Highbury legend did praise Tottenham’s midfield and claimed that both Moussa Sissoko and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg have done a ‘fantastic job’.

In recent weeks, Tottenham have had a number of stellar tests in their bid to be worthy title challengers – from Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal – and they have come through them all.

But despite Jose Mourinho working his magic once again, Keown doesn’t think the title will be heading to North London this season.

“I think they will have a large say on who does win it,” said Keown. “I cannot see them winning it.

“I just think Liverpool and Manchester City are ahead. I know that City are down in the table. I do like the way that Mourinho is now getting his message across to the players. They are a results-based team now. And they really make it count.

“Their midfield Sissoko and Hojbjerg have done a fantastic job. Really tough and strong. Harry Kane, at times, he is getting more touches in his own box than he is in the opposition box. But he really makes it count when he is forward.”

In truth, Tottenham’s chances of winning the Premier League title being downplayed suits them and their manager.

Mourinho works at his best as an underdog and the less pressure the man of his calibre is under then the more dangerous it makes his team.

Just like Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea. Tottenham need their main two threats – Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son – out of the treatment room and if that happens then their fans can start to dream.
