Kasper Schmeichel has praised Emi Martinez for making a ‘very good save’ during Aston Villa’s 2-1 win over his Leicester City side on Sunday, as he told BBC Sport.

The Leicester keeper stated that his teammates ‘created enough to win the game’ at Villa Park.

It was an unlikely Ezri Konsa brace that helped Villa to all three points, but Martinez played his part after he saved Harvey Barnes dipping header late in the second half.

Whilst Martinez was being lauded by the Villa faithful, the man on the other side was the Villan of the afternoon.

It all stemmed from Jacob Ramsey’s disallowed goal at the end of the first half, with VAR claiming that Schmeichel was in control of the ball when the Villa midfielder took his shot to score after the Dane had fumbled his save.

Schmeichel didn’t help matters by seemingly over-egging an injury, only for him to get back up moments later and be all fine about it.

Nonetheless, this is what Schmeichel had to say about the game yesterday and that Martinez save.

“We created enough to win the game,” said Schmeichel “We should have been at least one goal up at half-time.

“Their keeper then made a very good save in the second half. We conceded from another set-piece. We’re continuing to work on that.”

That’s four games under Steven Gerrard for Villa and three wins for the legendary midfielder.

Albeit a small window, that is pretty impressive because Gerrard walked into a team that had lost five games on the bounce.

Now they are sitting in the Premier League’s top ten and looking up rather than over their shoulder.

But this Saturday, it’s only a small matter of making a trip to Merseyside to take on Liverpool at Anfield.
