Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed that Youri Tielemans would be a ‘great signing’ for Arsenal and it’s a position they need to fill after watching ‘their closest rivals Spurs’ add Yves Bissouma to their ranks, as he told talkSPORT.

Arsenal have already added a midfielder to their squad this summer following the transfer of Fabio Vieira from Porto, but Agbonlahor thinks Leicester City’s technical star is someone that ‘ticks the boxes’ for Mikel Arteta’s side.

It has been suggested that the Gunners are back in for Tielemans and they are hopeful of securing a £30 million deal for his services – he has one-year left on his contract at the King Power Stadium.

If the Belgian is signed up, then does that mean another midfielder already in the camp will make way because that area is filling up quite a bit now.

Either way, this is what Agbonlahor had to say at the prospect of Arsenal now pushing all in for Tielemans’ talents this summer.

“Great signing,” said Agbonlahor. “They need a midfielder. He ticks the boxes that Arsenal need. He can score goals and gets around the pitch.

“They need someone to fill that position. They have seen their closest rivals Spurs, with Bissouma coming in. Raphinha is going to choose either Chelsea or Barcelona, so Arsenal need a couple of more players.”

TWO CHANCES OF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL

There is only so much rope Arteta can pull at the Emirates, before fans really start questioning him and turning on what he is doing at the club.

That time might come next season and especially if they don’t secure Champions League football – at which they will have two bites at.

Securing a top-four finish is one way they can get it, after blowing it up last time out, whilst winning the Europa League itself is another option.

One thing is for sure, Arsenal are building a strong squad of players to prepare them for a hectic fixture schedule, which will take its toll on them.
