Tim Sherwood has praised Tottenham’s ‘quality in reserve’ as he spoke about how summer signing, Yves Bissouma, can’t even get a kick under Antonio Conte.
The former Spurs boss spoke about how Bissouma was Brighton’s ‘best player’ before he was snapped up and now he is sitting on the bench at the Champions League side.
The 25-year-old is yet to start a game for the club, but so is a certain Richarlison, who made an impact from the bench at Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
Conte pushed the club over the Champions League line last season and he was happy with the majority, if not every one of his XI.
The only issue the Italian had was depth in quality, and the lack of it, well now he has that in abundance, with Ryan Sessegnon, Bissouma, Lucas Moura and Richarlison all back-up options from their last game, to name a few.
Could that be the game-changer for Spurs over the course of the season? Well, it proved its worth at the City Ground, as Sherwood praised the depth now at the club’s disposal, as he told Premier League Productions (28/08/22 at 6:30 pm).
“They have quality in reserve,” said Sherwood. “They are bringing on a player like Bissouma, who was doing very well for Brighton in the Premier League.
“He was their best player last season. All of a sudden, he can’t get a kick of the football, so they have strength in depth now.”
WHEN WILL CONTE ROTATE?
The games are going to start to come thick and fast now, so Conte will have a few big calls to make during these coming weeks and it might even start as early as Wednesday night.
Spurs take on London rivals West Ham United, before they host another team from the capital at the weekend, newly-promoted Fulham.
Son Heung-min hasn’t scored from his opening four Premier League matches, so does Conte start Richarlison? Not necessarily dropping the South Korean star, but showcasing the club’s depth against another top team in the country?
All in all, it’s an unbeaten start for Conte and his players, but they proved against Chelsea a number of weeks ago that they can get through the difficult tests and that’s exactly what faces them against the Hammers.
