Glenn Hoddle thinks Alisson Becker was Liverpool’s ‘Man of the Match’ during their 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday at Anfield.

After previously beating Bournemouth 9-0, this time last season, yesterday’s fixture was far different and trickery for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Liverpool were 1-0 down inside five minutes, and in truth, it could have been a lot worse because the away side started the game in a far more aggressive manner.

But when the Reds settled down and started to motor, Hoddle felt that Alisson Becker made some ‘very, very good’ saves for his side, as he told Premier League Productions (19/08/23 at 5:10 pm).

It proved to be important because, whilst Liverpool went into the break with a 2-1 ahead, Alexis Mac Allister, on his home debut, was sent off just before the hour mark – Chris Sutton was critical.

But that didn’t stop the Champions League-chasers from scoring again four minutes later to seal the points, as Hoddle gave Alisson his flowers for his display.

“When you look at it, who was Man of the Match for Liverpool,” asked Hoddle. “Alisson made some very good saves.

“After the first minutes, when they messed up at the back. He was probably their best player. He made some very, very important saves.”

Alisson stepping up again

These last 12 months have seen Klopp’s side decline on the pitch, with several big-name and senior stars departing.

During that period, Alisson has stood tall and been the consistent performer for the Merseyside giants.

And with the new season already underway, he is, once again, starting to prove that he is simply picking off from where he left off.
