Lil Wayne, along with many other celebrities, is a big tennis fan.

The hip-hop legend has been spotted at the US Open on a number of occasions, watching the very best go at it on one of the sport’s biggest stages.

Earlier this year, he congratulated his US compatriot, Madison Keys, on winning a maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.

Last season, though, he revealed he is a ‘huge fan’ of a WTA star who is now ranked outside the world’s top 20.

When Lil Wayne told Jelena Ostapenko he is a huge fan of her

Following Jelena Ostapenko’s fourth-round victory over Yulia Putintseva at the 2024 Wimbledon championships, Lil Wayne took to social media to praise her.

He said on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Jelena Jelena Jelena!!! I am and I [have] been a huge f— fan!!!”

As per Sportskeeda, when reacting to the message, Ostapenko said: “I mean, it was crazy because he has 18 or 19 million followers on Instagram.

“When I saw this for the first time, I was like, ‘Wow, he saw it, and he’s aware of it, that’s like unbelievable!’ He also sent me a message like he’s my big fan as well.

“So that for me was like, I stopped, and I was staring at my phone for five minutes. I couldn’t believe that Lil Wayne texted me.

“I would love to see him in my box, maybe when I’m playing the US Open or when I’m in the US. I would love to see him watching me play, of course.”

Jelena Ostapenko’s end to Wimbledon after Lil Wayne’s message

Ostapenko reached the peak of her career in 2017 when she won the French Open, and she reached the semifinals of Wimbledon in 2018, but has not managed to go as far at majors ever since.

When Lil Wayne sent her the message, she had made it to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon for the first time since 2018.

There, however, she ultimately lost to Barbora Krejcikova, who went on to win the tournament and clinch her second major title.

In 2025, Ostapenko’s best result at a Grand Slam was a third-round finish, which she achieved at Roland Garros.
