Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain said on Soccer AM on Sky Sports Premier League (11:43am, November 7, 2020) that his Liverpool teammate Andy Robertson is not good in rondos in training.
The Liverpool midfielder said that the 26-year-old Scotland international left-back is the worst player he has seen in a rondo.
The former Arsenal star added that Robertson is brilliant in a match despite not being good in a rondo in training.
Oxlade-Chamberlain also expressed his admiration for fellow midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.
The 27-year-old said about Robertson on Soccer AM on Sky Sports Premier League (11:43am, November 7, 2020): “I say to him, everyone, all the time, ‘How can someone that is so bad in a box or a rondo, like the worst I have ever seen, be so good in a match?’
“You watch him in a rondo, and he’s like he has never played football before. He gets in a match, and he’s so reliable, it’s a skill.”
The Englishman said about Thiago: “He has been one of my favourite midfielders for years. To see him do what he does daily, he is a top, top player.”
Important player for Liverpool
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s comments on Robertson is very interesting. Even though that left-back does not seem to be especially great in training, the 26-year-old is stunning on matchdays.
Some players are like that. The Brazilian Ronaldo suggested in December 2018, as quoted in AS, that he did not like to train, but he is one of the best ever strikers in the world of football.
Of course, training sessions are hugely important, but as long as Robertson performs well on the pitch, it does not really matter what he does in rondos.
The left-back is one of the best in the world in his position and is an important player in the way Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp plays.
