Sol Campbell told talkSPORT that he is ‘pleased’ for Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings following his performance for England on Sunday.
There was a lot of pressure on Villa’s towering centre-back going into that Euro 2020 opener, but just like his Wembley performance, he shut down Croatia’s attack and the critics.
It was Mings’ first major tournament as a player and the biggest stage he has graced in his footballing career.
But he put in a performance like a seasoned veteran, as the 28-year-old was lauded by England great, Sol Campbell.
“I am pleased for him,” said Campbell. “I have been in this situation. You can get under pressure from the fans and the media.
“But that’s all part of being an international footballer and playing for your country. The whole nation is scrutinising everything you do.
“So, for him to come out of this, clean sheet, played well and defended well. It’s a very, very good start for him.”

From being a Mortgage advisor to being an England international at a major tournament on home soil.
It has been some journey for Mings during this past decade.
Before his initial January loan move to Villa, Mings was looking to reconstruct his injury-hit career.
But little did he know that the path from the South Coast in Bournemouth to the Midlands at Villa Park would sooner rather than later lead him to the Wembley gates.
