Charlie Adam expects Ross Wilson will name Derek McInnes interim Rangers boss if Steven Gerrard accepts an offer to be the next Aston Villa manager, while speaking on PLZ Soccer.
Reports by Birmingham Live claim the Gers are resigned to losing Gerrard as the Villans seek a new head coach.
The Premier League side sacked Dean Smith on Sunday after suffering a fifth-straight loss. Dropping the club to 16th in the standings and just two-points above the relegation zone.

Aston Villa will pay Rangers around £4.5m in compensation to appoint Gerrard as their next manager. After their CEO Christian Purslow identified the England icon as his top target.
Gerrard has two-and-a-half-years left on his Rangers contract, but the Daily Mail report he is open to joining Aston Villa. Potentially leaving the Premiership giants at a loss.
Adam backs McInnes to replace Aston Villa-bound Gerrard as Rangers manager
Adam expects Rangers Sporting Director Wilson will turn to McInnes to replace Gerrard if the 41-year-old is Aston Villa-bound. Favouring a short-term fix for the rest of the season.
“I think it will be a short-term fix,” he said. “I just think they’ll have to get someone now to consolidate from now until the end of the season, and then see where they go from that.

“It’ll be a surprise for them. I don’t think they’ll have had anybody lined up or any names floating around. The way Ross works, he’s probably got four or five on a list that he’s thought: ‘If this happens, we need to be prepared for it’.
“But they’ve probably thought that it wouldn’t happen and they’ll be maybe caught a little bit short. I think it could be maybe a short-term fix. I think Derek could come in and be the stop-gap until the end of the season.”
McInnes has remained out of work since leaving Aberdeen in March after eight-years at Pittodrie Stadium. Overseeing 285 Premiership games, winning 151 and losing 76.
The 50-year-old was not without offers, but has held out for the right opportunity, via the Daily Record. And the chance to lead Rangers to back-to-back titles may prove just that.
But that’s to say Wilson shares Adam’s belief that McInnes is a sensible replacement for Gerrard at Ibrox. Who could leave Glasgow with the Gers sat atop the Premiership table.
